Ottawa 70s Brutalism

It was time to freshen up our 1970s, brutalist apartment in Downtown Ottawa. Inspired by late mid-century brutalism, warm woods, brass, and geometric vibes, we breathed new life into our classic space!

Welcome to this exceptional two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo, thoughtfully designed for comfort and functionality in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

Lovingly restored by myself and my partner (along with some spectacular trades and professionals), this condo combines timeless mid-century design with modern amenities. It’s perfect for professionals, visiting academics, or anyone seeking a peaceful yet convenient home in Ottawa’s vibrant core.

We fully restored the original oak, parquet floor with a warm finish that brought out both it's natural tone and comforting texture. Custom walnut cabinet fronts extended that 70s warmth and texture throughout the kitchen and living spaces while smoked oak and terrazzo textured tiles gave the washrooms a pop of drama.

I have to say my favourite parts of this renovation would have to be the custom screen/shelf wall we designed and had built that was fully inspired by late mid-century interiors and millwork staples like Poul Cadovius' modular shelving units. Additionally, I am particularly proud of my tile job around the electric fireplace which utilized a teal, circular geometric tile.
